Day 4
After another delicious breakfast we took le metro to le Musee d'Orsay, a beautiful museum in a converted railway station on the banks of the river Seine. There we were able to see many amazing Impressionist paintings by artists such as Degas, Renoir and Van Gogh. In addition there were several other displays of work including art deco furniture and fauvist paintings. We then grabbed some baguettes to eat, bought a few souvenirs and walked over one of the many bridges over the Seine. Here it has become popular to buy a padlock, write your name and that of your beloved on the padlock, attach it to the bridge and throw your key into the Seine - some of us did just that! We then continued our walk into the Tuilleries, where we were briefly distracted by a stall selling barbe a papa (candyfloss), before walking through Place de la Vendome. We then went to the top of the Galeries Lafayette store from where we could see a stunning view over the rooftops of Paris. Tres pittoresque! After a brief shop we hopped on the metro to Chez Clement for our dinner. We even managed to visit the Gay Pride parade by accident on the way to the restaurant which was a colourful event! At dinner Mrs Burman tried escargots for the first time and felt rather like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, trying not to shoot snails across the room! Some of the other sudents tried escargots, but most had a delicious tarte aux poireaux, followed by boeuf bourgignon and creme brulee. We then got the metro back to the hotel and straight to bed. Bonne nuit!
