Day 6
After a slightly later than planned start (who can sleep through 3 alarm calls??!!) we took the metro to the most famous tourist attraction in Paris: La Tour Eiffel, where we got the lift to the top and marveled at the amazing views of Paris -magnifique! With the temperatures rising we grabbed some lunch (a croque monsieur or a baguette for most) and then we crossed over to the Trocadero where we were able to take some fabulous pictures of the Eiffel tower. It got hotter and hotter and we were relieved to get on the boat for our cruise up the river Seine, with a nice breeze and a little shade. We listened to the songs of Edith Piaf and other famous French singers and enjoyed the interesting commentary. Then we walked and took the metro to Notre Dame. By this time Mrs Burman's nose had turned an interesting shade of bright red and we were all rather hot and sweaty - yuk! Some of us choose to go into Notre Dame to enjoy both it's beauty and it's cooler temperatures, whilst others found a shady spot to watch the world pass by. We then hopped on the Metro to the Champs Elysees where we enjoyed an hour of shopping - youpee! We had our dinner (eggs mayonnaise, ratatouille with barbecued turkey and tarte aux pommes - miam miam!). As the sun started to set we climbed to the top of the Arc de Triomphe from where we once again marveled at the beautiful skyline of Paris.
Sorry ladies, no Patrick Dempsey today - boo!! A demain!
